The application is composed of the following:

  • An application letter explaining the reason for acquiring Rwandan nationality
  • Birth certificate
  • Photocopies of identity and travel documents
  • By origin: Provide evidence that you are of Rwandan origin
  • By marriage: Provide a marriage certificate
  • A certificate proving that the applicant is not subject to legal proceedings in his/her country of origin
  • Consular fee of 10 Euros
  • Two passport pictures with a white background
  • Complete application form (please select the corresponding form below)
  • CV




The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda hereby wishes to communicate that Rwandans can apply for new passports, if the current passports expire during the renunciation process.

The application is composed of the following:

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration in Kigali, written in one of the three official languages: Kinyarwanda, English or French, explaining the reason of renouncing nationality: Indicating current Physical address, phone number and e-mail address
    • Indicate three people of reference in Rwanda with their full Addresses/place of Residence, Relationship, Profession, Telephone number and e-mail address.
  • Photocopies of Rwandan identity and travel documents
  • Proof of acquisition of another nationality to be translated in one of Rwanda’s official languages and certifified by competent authorities
  • Attach a Criminal Record Certificate issued by compentent authorities in Rwanda (Find Criminal Record Certificate application Requirements here)
  • Consular fee of 10 EUR
  • Two colored passport size photos with a white background and clearly showing both ears. Please indicate your name at the back, in order to avoid any confusion.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) written in one of the three official languages: Kinyarwanda, English or French
  • Complete relevant application form (see below).
